What Countries Have Done
Cybercrime is a huge problem in our world today, especially with the rapidly expanding use of the internet in modern times. In 1996, the Council of Europe along with the United States, Canada, and Japan drafted a preliminary international treaty covering cybercrime that would hopefully prevent the problem of the different laws in different countries concerning internet safety.
The US Patriot Act of 2001 that was placed after the 9/11 attacks also has some additionally placed laws against cybercrime in an effort to prevent its use in terrorism.
In 2012, some members of U.S. congress attempted to pass SOPA and PIPA against digital piracy. This act didn't pass largely due to the mass protesting, but later in the year, the Philippines passed a similar law preventing cybercrime that limited much of the use of the internet, not just digital piracy. It was largely protested, but unlike in the US, it was still passed as a law.
These two countries aren't the only countries- most countries around the world have laws attempting to prevent cybercrime. In addition, the InterPol (International Police) play a large part in preventing cybercrime, as they even having an entire program structured against it.
